EducateAble. Accessibility in education.

Our Focus…

Advocacy

Advocating for accessibility in education is our top priority. EducateAble believes that everyone deserves access to accommodations in the educational sphere, as well as education choice. In 2023, we helped lobby for cyber charter school funding in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We continue to emphasize the importance of education choice and accessibility for disabled students.

Awareness

We continually spread awareness about the importance of accessibility in education. Thousands of students are unaware they even have a disability and could get accommodations to help them with their struggles in school. By spreading the word about neurodivergence and the importance of assisting those with disabilities, we plan to push for easier access to accommodations in schools.

My Perspective as a Jewish Student after October 7th:

Part of accessibility in education is protection of the students. Here is my perspective on going to college as a Jewish Student post October 7th:

“Alexandra said what she’s seen happening on campuses since Oct. 7 has ‘been a real eye-opener for me.’ She emphasized her support for free speech and ‘the right to hold your own opinions.’ But ‘there is a line to be drawn. Colleges that I thought were safe have been protecting those who cross the line between free speech and threats’” (https://forward.com/news/572595/college-applications-jewish-students-antisemitism-hamas-attack/).

Work With— Not Against.

In my junior year of high school, I began working at Game On State, a local arcade dedicated to accessibility for disabled customers and workers. At Game On State, my employers provide customized jobs and focus on what someone can do, rather than their limitations. Working at Game On State has taught me ways to accommodate disabled students through demonstration of what true accessibility looks like.
